Not-so-Frequently Asked Questions
Why Design?
Like many designers, I “fell” into it. (Yikes, what a cliché.) Though what keeps me in Design is the drive to make things better and more human in a world increasingly stacked against this. Especially in challenging sectors with lots of opportunity for change, such as Energy.
What’s your area of strength?
In terms of technical design skill: workshopping. I bloody love a workshop! The more storytelling I can weave in, the better. So I like to take participants on a journey in each one, they’re sometimes a bit punny and sometimes a bit cheesy. The ultimate goal is they’re engaging and memorable for participants while remaining productive in their output. It’s a really fun challenge to get that balance each time!
“Soft” / behavioural skill: Empathy, self-awareness and emotional intelligence (Note: this is according to peer feedback). I’ve made a very conscious move into people leadership in my career and I’ve been made aware that these things all really come through in my approach to managing others.
Most unexpected fact about you?
Spent some of my early twenties living nomadically on a narrowboat. In fact, that’s why many of my workshops are boat themed. I love a good boat pun!
What do you do outside of work?
I spend a huge amount of my spare time walking my two hyperactive ginger dogs Hugo and Milo 🐕 🐕
Introvert or Extrovert
I couldn’t be more introverted! My social battery dies pretty quickly, so I really benefit from a team and work environment that allows for the flexibility to recharge when needed.
When are you most productive?
Around 9:30am-11am as this is post dog walk or gym and my second cup of tea! But I’m equally incredibly productive in the evening when the noise (Slack) dies down and I can hyper focus for a few hours uninterrupted.
